During the semester we invite artists to work and provide students with insights into their creative process at SQUARE. This program is made possible by the Hirschmann Foundation.
Video Exhibition
The well-known Swiss video artist Mats Staub invites 50 individuals to participate in an evolution of his project "Holidays," answering questions about their own life stories while being filmed: personal questions that can, however, be answered with a single number. The videos will be displayed on the screens at SQUARE and/or on extra monitors. Initially started in 2022, the project is now being repeated a year later with the same 50 individuals – to explore what can happen in a year, how these individuals develop, and how a life story can be presented in a completely different way.
Lukas Bärfuss is a renowned playwright, novelist and essayist from Switzerland. His works are internationally recognised and have been translated into several languages. His honors include the Berlin Literature Prize and the Georg Büchner Prize. He is a lecturer in dramaturgy at the Bern University of the Arts and lives in Zurich. During his visit to SQUARE, he will discuss the need for a revised education system based on critical and complex systems thinking. His aim is to tackle collective challenges such as disinformation and social polarisation.
Vernissage
In a further development of his "Feiertage" project, recognised Swiss video artist Mats Staub invites 50 students to answer questions about their own CVs while being filmed: personal questions that can be answered with a single number. The videos will be shown on the screens in SQUARE and/or on extra screens. The project was first launched in 2022 and will be repeated a year later - with the same 50 people - to find out what can happen in an academic year, how students develop and how a CV can be presented in a completely different way.
