The Artist's Way (HSG Square)

As "Artist in Residence" at SQUARE, the Origen Festival, under the direction of artistic director Giovanni Netzer, premiered "The Artist's Way", a new dance production by British choreographer Robert Robinson. This debut, his first full-length work for Origen, which was performed at Riom Castle last summer, explores how his views on time and transience have influenced his artistic journey.

Origen and the University of St.Gallen have been working together regularly since 2016. An intensive block course takes place in Riom every year as part of the contextual studies program. At the end of April, the students on this year's course presented the results of their research at SQUARE.

The Artist in Residence program is supported by the Hirschmann Foundation

About choreographer Robert Robinson

Robert Robinson grew up on the Isle of Wight. The Brit studied at the Elmhurst School of Dance in Birmingham and completed his training at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart. He joined the Stuttgart Ballet in 2011 and was promoted to soloist in 2014. Collaborations with many renowned choreographers such as Marco Goecke, Hans van Manen and William Forsythe followed. In 2014, he was named "most promising artist" by Tanz Magazin. In 2017, he made the radical decision to give up his job as a professional dancer. It was an incisive moment that changed his concept of time: away from daily routines, schedules and appointments, he managed to watch the world go by. "The Artist's Way" incorporates his personal experiences of this journey.
