Universities worldwide are confronted with societal challenges, volatility and uncertainty. They must constantly evolve themselves and their teaching and learning methods to prepare students as well as possible for the challenges of the future world of work. SQUARE at the University of St. Gallen supports this further development through innovation in teaching, cross-sector collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue. It is an experimental field for shaping the future of learning and teaching.
Guided by curiosity, creativity, and a passion for cooperation, we offer a variety of activities including:
curating a high-quality content program featuring personalities, artists, and alumni
inviting the university community to shape the culture of dialogue and programs
initiating innovative collaborations in the city and region
providing flexible spaces for innovative seminars and courses
promoting exchange of knowledge on innovative teaching and learning methods
documenting and sharing insights on the future of learning
inviting graduates to exchange ideas with current students
providing spaces for student associations and external partners
and creating an informal space with events and a café open to the public
SQUARE is part of the University of St.Gallen and is curated by a team of staff, students and volunteers. The team reports to the university administration, with the executive director reporting to the rectorate. SQUARE and its intedant program is financed by donations to the HSG Foundation, the University and by income from external partners.

In particular, we would like to thank the donors of the first hour, who have believed in the vision for learning and teaching of the future since the beginning, as well as the entire HSG community for their great contribution to the further development of the University of St.Gallen."
The HSG Foundation was able to receive around 65 million Swiss francs as part of the fundraising campaign for SQUARE. The largest project of this kind in the history of the HSG!
