In recent years, social entrepreneurship has become a hot topic. As an extension of general social work and corporate social responsibility, an intermediate space has emerged that attempts to form a symbiosis of entrepreneurial thinking and social action (and vice versa). Everyone is talking about it, but hardly anyone knows what is at its core. This is partly due to the fact that social work is traditionally oriented towards selfless action in the service of people, while in classical business administration, profit maximisation is at the forefront of entrepreneurship. Both terms are highly complex, which is further intensified by the compound social entrepreneurship. This is not just about a theoretical definition of the term, but also about the tension that arises between the two poles in practice. What is wishful thinking and what is reality, myth and logos?

About Prof. Dr. Dr. Ann-Kristin Achleitner and Prof. Dr. Andreas Heinecke:

Prof. Dr. Dr. Ann-Kristin Achleitner, long-standing holder of the Chair of Entrepreneurial Finance at the Technical University of Munich, member of numerous supervisory boards and one of the first personalities to advocate social entrepreneurship in Germany, and Prof. Dr. Andreas Heinecke, serial social entrepreneur, creator of Dialogue in the Dark and professor of social business at the European Business School, take stock of their decades of critical enthusiasm for this form of new and sustainable economic activity for the social participation of people at risk of exclusion and disadvantage.
