Café Sou’s, operated by Migros Catering, serves fresh pastries and coffee, cold drinks, salads, and a variety of snacks every day.
During the semester, it is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 15:00. During the interim semester, opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 15:00.
The SQUARE Bar, run by the Student Union (SHSG), is open every Tuesday and Wednesday during the semester from 16:30 to 20:30.
Outside these hours, refreshments are available at the self-service counter in the entrance area – please note that cash payments are not accepted.
In addition to regular courses and public lectures, SQUARE hosts a variety of events every semester. The SQUARE program opens the campus to everyone: students and faculty, the local community, and all those curious for fresh perspectives – whether it’s a reading, a film screening, a theater performance, or simply a chat with one of our Personalities in Residence.

SQUARE is a flexible space. The furniture does not have a fixed location and can be used and rearranged as required – provided it is not in a room that is reserved or already occupied. The work areas and rooms are also available for free use, unless otherwise indicated on the display at the entrance. On the ground floor, near the cloakrooms and lockers, you’ll find the SQUARE piano, a table football table and a pile of beanbags.
Please treat these items with care and consideration so that future students at SQUARE can continue to enjoy them. Please report any damage or issues to the SQUARE office.
Please do not eat in rooms with carpeted floors. Dogs are welcome on a lead in public areas. Only therapy animals are permitted in the work and group rooms.
There are Zippsafe cloakroom bags and lockers downstairs at SQUARE. They can be opened and closed using an RFID card (e.g. SwissPass or Legi). If you have any problems, the SQUARE office on the first floor will be happy to help.
Right by the stairs in the basement, there is a white cupboard where lost property is kept. Valuable items found can be handed in at the management office, where they will also be kept safe.
The University of St.Gallen’s art collection comprises over 50 works open to the public, including pieces by Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró and Gerhard Richter, as well as by regional artists such as Roman Signer and Josef Felix Müller.
Various artworks from the collection can be found on the SQUARE site, such as Tony Cragg’s sculpture Ourea, Anita Zimmermann’s video installation Vasengesang and Klaudia Schifflere’s painting Lalü Lalü.
