Peter Maurer is one of the defining figures in international diplomacy and humanitarian cooperation. As President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from 2012 to 2022, he advocated worldwide for the protection of people in conflict and crisis regions and worked to advance international humanitarian law. Before that, he represented Switzerland as a diplomat and ambassador to the United Nations in New York. Today, he is President of the Basel Institute on Governance.
