The Totentanz is one of the most striking motifs in European cultural history. The Grisons Cultural Foundation Origen brings this timeless theme to the stage, opening up a poetic view of impermanence, community, and the great questions of human existence. A creation by Giovanni Netzer with wonderful dancers set to the music of Shostakovich, blending dance, piano, and visual imagery into a moving overall experience.
The dance performance forms the highlight of a special course within the Contextual Studies programme at the University of St.Gallen. Over the course of one week, master's students got to know the cultural institution Origen in Riom, examined its success factors, and gained insights into the artistic creative process. The three-evening guest performance at SQUARE will be rounded off with a costume exhibition, workshops, and presentations by the students.
