In this session, we will discuss challenges, pitfalls, tips and resources that are needed to successfully start an academic career in the field of sustainability. Dr. Kerrigan Unter, postdoc at the Institute for Economy and the Environment (IWÖ) will provide an input, followed by a panel discussion to share experiences of various researchers and to discuss any questions that you may have. We will further exchange during an Apéro at the end of the session.

Introduction to “Serious Gaming” & Game Design Workshop

Serious gaming is an effective way to apply theoretical knowledge, and game design can help university faculty create interactive and engaging learning exercises for students, both online and offline. Research has shown that academic courses that include serious games score higher on metrics such as student satisfaction and engagement.

Join SQUARE for a one-day workshop, where two experts in serious game design, Tim Goudriaan and Diederik Stolk, will guide you through the process of building a scenario-based game in the areas of geo-politics, business, economics, and security. This workshop is exclusively for faculty and lecturers at the University of St.Gallen, and prior registration is necessary.

To further prepare, we highly recommend participating in the "St.Gallen Strategy Days", a large-scale two-day serious gaming exercise held on June 1st and 2nd.

Weaving a Web of Augmented Intelligence - Computer Science Insights @HSG

From its inception, the Web was quickly perceived as a vast source of knowledge for people all over the world and it took some time to understand that its potential goes far beyond. Not only did it become the most popular architecture for developing Internet applications it also became a place for all sorts of programs to interact and exchange knowledge.

This is also confirmed by the latest evolutions of AI that produce and consume a lot of information and data on the Web. In fact, using examples from several projects, we will see that the Web is now providing universal hypermedia linking all forms of intelligence and knowledge, and supporting their evolutions on public and private networks.

For this reason, we will show that the Web and its extensions must be designed to be human-centered to enable the futures we want and to avoid the futures we fear.

The First University of St. Gallen Grand Challenge: The EU A.I. Act 2023

On July 18^th-19^th, 2023, SQUARE will host the Final of the First University of St. Gallen Grand Challenge, focusing on assessing cutting-edge A.I. technology in light of the upcoming EU A.I. Act. Six teams of professionals will compete for a prize of 100,000 CHF, awarded by a jury. The EU A.I. Act categorizes A.I. according to risk, and the Grand Challenge will reveal how this new legislation can be implemented on specific technology. The public can attend to witness the competition, and some A.I. technology will be on display. Participation is open, and potential teams should register for an online informational event on March 2, 2023.
