Lithuania – From Soviet Past and Dissidence to Exile and Present-Day Russia

Lithuania's Turbulent History: Witnessed by Tomas Venclova: This event explores Lithuania's challenging history during WWII, initially caught between Soviet and Nazi control, leading to a prolonged Soviet occupation. Tomas Venclova, a prominent Lithuanian poet and academic, offers a personal perspective, having rebelled against both the regime and his communist father. Now a professor at Yale, Venclova discusses Lithuania's complex past and present relations with Russia, alongside his interactions with Nobel laureates Czeslaw Milosz and Joseph Brodsky, in a conversation with Yves Partschefeld and Ulrich Schmid.

Conference «Machines that Fail Us»

"Machines That Fail Us" unites academia, journalism, civil society, and the tech industry to discuss AI failures, hallucinations, and errors. This event features critical voices dedicated to improving AI's future. Registration is required to join. AI is used across various sectors like education, healthcare, employment, and government, influencing many aspects of our lives. However, these systems often lack impartiality and fairness. Despite their aim for objectivity, they contain biases and inaccuracies, especially in human profiling. Over three years, "The Human Error Project" explored how European journalists, civil society organizations, and tech entrepreneurs handle AI errors and their impact on human rights. We will present our findings and host two workshops to discuss building more sustainable AI futures.
