Artist in Residence: Lewis Davidson

October 27th, 28th & 29th
Artist working in sculpture, animation, sound, photography and installation

Lewis Davidson lives and works in London. His artistic practice encompasses sculpture, animation, sound, photography and installation. He focuses on the overlooked and inconspicuous elements that comprise our everyday living spaces. He works directly with found objects, developing special processes to transform and redefine their identity, as well as their connection to value, purpose and place.

In 2023, Davidson created the St.Gallen Clicker as part of an Art Commission project. This piece is now part of the University of St. Gallen's permanent collection.

The events are public and free. Registration is required for organizational reasons.

Programme

Clueless? The Art of Collection

10 to 12 am, Campus University of St.Gallen

The Art Collection at HSG is part of our day to day surroundings. We encounter artworks en route to a lecture, whilst buying lunch or grabbing coffee. But how much do we really know about the pieces and the artists that created them? Is there something we missed? Are there hidden stories to be told?

This event is an interactive treasure hunt. In teams participants will explore the university and its Art Collection through a series of clues; gleaning information about the collection and unpicking the history of the artworks we live alongside.

Registration

Artist Talk and Short Film Screening

6 bis 7:30 pm, SQUARE Room Wiborada

SQUARE will host the premier screening of Davidson’s first multi-screen Animation, followed by an Artist Talk that includes the creation of St.Gallen Clicker. The evening will culminate in an informal round of Q&A.
