Do lightsabers actually work?
Why does James Bond always win? What does Spider-Man have to do with physics, and how does Iron Man manage to build his particle accelerator so quickly? It’s well known that Hollywood is far from the pinnacle of scientific realism. But how much science really lies behind those blockbuster effects?
Sascha Vogel explains this in his award-winning program «Physics in Hollywood». But don’t worry — this isn’t about formulas and physical constants, it’s about the fun of science itself! In Vogel’s big tour through the world of film, no eye remains dry, even if you gave up on physics after third grade. From «Armageddon» to «Star Wars» to «Zoolander» — no movie is safe from his critique!
Dr. Sascha Vogel is a theoretical physicist. From 2016 to the end of 2019, he served as Managing Director of the Frankfurt International Graduate School for Science. At the end of 2019, he founded science birds GmbH, where he combines his passion for science, science communication, and training early-career researchers. As a successful science slammer, he captivates audiences with his show Physics in Hollywood.
The lecture is open to the public. Sascha Vogel visits SQUARE as part of ScienceComm. The Swiss Annual Congress on Science Communication takes place on September 3 and 4.
