Climbing the Mountain Without a Compass!? Learning Experiences Between Boundless Freedom and Paternalism

To reach the summit, one can take the cable car or hike. Both lead to the goal, but while the cable car defines both route and timing, a hike allows for many different paths and experiences. Educational processes, too, move between these poles of freedom and control. This lecture, from an educational science perspective, explores when signposts and guardrails are needed to guide learning journeys—and why, in light of current challenges, it is more important than ever to explore New Ways of Learning.
