Othmar Karas is considered an outstanding and influential figure in European politics. With a profound academic background, including a doctorate in political science from the University of Vienna and a Master's in Business Law from the University of St. Gallen, he brings extensive expertise in legal and political matters. His political career led him from an assistant role in the Austrian National Council to the First Vice-President of the European Parliament, an influential position he held from January 2022 to July 2024. Since 1999, he has been a member of the European Parliament and has had a significant impact on EU foreign policy, social policy, as well as economic and monetary policy during his political career.

With over two decades of experience in European politics, Karas brings his extensive expertise in economic policy, European integration, and governance to St. Gallen.
