The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia.

AND, it’s coming to HSG for the first time this fall!


If you’re a currently matriculated PhD student at HSG—from any faculty—you’re eligible to apply.

This may be the opportunity for you if you wish to:

  1. improve your presentation skills (through individual training with our expert coach),

  2. share your doctoral research with a general audience beyond your field of research, and

  3. potentially win prize money/compete internationally amongst 900+ presenters from 85+ countries.


First place: 1,000CHF
Honorable mention: 500CHF
Audience choice: 500CHF

Judging Criteria

Comprehension & Content (e.g., research background and significance, clear/logical sequence, no jargon, describe key results/conclusions/outcomes)

Engagement & Communication (e.g., careful not to trivialize/over-generalize, enthusiastic, capture/maintain audience attention, stage presence, appropriate PowerPoint slide)
