Here, we aim to provide a platform for intergenerational, international, and interdisciplinary dialogue to shape the future of sports. In our interactive platform, the Impulse Summit, we unite 200 leaders from in and around the industry with 60 selected Global Talents. Our Global Talents are invited to Switzerland for a 5-day program that ends with the Impulse Summit at SQUARE. Here, our experts and Global Talents challenge the status quo of the sports industry in interactive formats.

Vermag Kunst die Gemüter dermassen zu erhitzen, dass die langjährige Freundschaft dreier Männer so ins Wanken gerät, dass sie riskiert, zu zerbrechen? Sie vermag wie uns Yasmina Reza in ihrem Welterfolg «Kunst» meisterlich vor Augen führt und dabei die Zuschauer bei allem Lachen dazu bringt, sich selber zu hinterfragen.

Until now, the development of mobile, wearable and ubiquitous systems has been largely research and innovation-led. But changes are afoot. To address societal needs, we must be more mindful of its aspirations and more responsible for the methods used. However, embracing such a paradigm shift is likely to be far more difficult and demanding than ever before. In Yvonne Rogers talk, she discussed the new dilemmas and challenges facing those who wish to embark on this new way of framing and doing research.
Yvonne Rogers is a Professor of Interaction Design, the director of UCLIC and a deputy head of the Computer Science department at UCL and a fellow of the Royal Society. Her research interests are in the areas of ubiquitous computing, interaction design and human-computer interaction. A central theme of her work is how to design interactive technologies that can enhance life by augmenting and extending everyday, learning and work activities.

Machine learning has many applications throughout the prediction workflow in weather modelling. It has the potential to compensate shortcomings of traditional modelling procedures as well as to produce tailored products for policy and decision-makers. However, to ensure that machine learning can build trust and eventually become a reliable technology for production, it is also important to consider the technical and engineering challenges that arise when introducing machine learning in an operational environment. In this talk, I will review different machine learning applications we are using and developing at MeteoSwiss and discuss our MLOps challenges.

Am 24.11., Vorabend des internationalen Tages gegen Gewalt an Frauen, veranstaltet das SPF eine Podiumsdiskussion zum Thema Femizid. Weshalb geschieht solche Gewalt gegen Frauen und wie kann ihr vorgebeugt werden? Wie stehen Frauenmorde mit häuslicher Gewalt und online Gewalt in Zusammenhang?
Die Gewaltvorfälle gegen Frauen tauchen jedoch (noch) nicht in einer Kriminalstatistik auf. Verschiedene Gruppen schlagen daher vor, den Begriff Femizid einzuführen.
Die Rolle der Medien in der Berichterstattung ist in diesem Kontext eine zentrale: Medien reproduzieren nämlich patriarchale Klischees, wenn sie Femizide als »Beziehungsdrama« oder »Familientragödie« verharmlosen ("Verbrechen aus Leidenschaft"). Sie führen dazu, dass das schambehaftete Thema weiter tabuisiert wird

Computers and machines have been developed as tools that are directed and controlled by human users. Emerging sensing technology, activity recognition, and AI enable the creation of systems that can proactively support or even lead the human towards achieving her goals. However, such a development also requires carefully balancing gains against a loss of control. In this talk, I will present examples of digital companions providing the basis for discussing the implications and challenges of moving forward with this technology.
Florian Michahelles is a Professor of Ubiquitous Computing at the Artifact-based Computing research unit and special interest group leader of Human-Centered AI at the Center of AI and Machine Learning at TU Wien. His research interests comprise human-computer interaction, Internet of Things, and Human-Centered AI. His team’s and his central research question is what is it the human can do, and what is it the machine can do in order to effectively collaborate on a joined task. This involves conceptualizing, prototyping, and evaluating novel concepts based on a diversity of technologies. His current grand challenge comprises the development of a self-balancing bicycle as an affordable, efficient and fun mode of transportation.
